Chief Engineer (Electric/Autonomous Vehicles - $2B in Funding)
Our client is a leader in their industry. They have the majority market share in one of the world's largest countries and have been aggressively expanding into new markets. As one of the world's fastest growing companies they are solving a global problem at scale with millions of users already. The company has raised more than $2 billion in funding from top tier venture capital firms and is valued north of $7 billion. This role will be one of their first few hires in Silicon Valley as they open their first California office in Palo Alto. The ideal candidate will live in the bay area, but non local candidates are still encouraged to apply as there could be the potential to work remotely or receive a generous relocation package.
Required Skills & Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
* 10+ years of overall relevant industry experience.
* Experience working in the electric vehicle domain.
* Experience building automotive systems for motors/motor control, battery & BMS, charging (onboard/offboard).
* Expert in systems engineering - electrical and embedded systems.
* Experience building safety critical systems and meeting ISO26262 or another ICE 61508 related standard.
* Experience working with a range of suppliers and influencing suppliers to meet program goals.
* Experience leading integration of electric vehicle systems within an automotive OEM delivery and understand the pitfalls of the program.
* Understanding of the validation requirements for safety critical electrical vehicle systems.
* Experience working through 3+ automotive programs (can overlap) and at least 1 new automotive program.
* Experience leading attribute setting and trading for electric vehicle OEM programs.
* Experience designing for manufacturing and service.
* Experience leading vehicle quality studies for related components and subsystems.
* Experience of the service provision for electric vehicles - including vehicle service and charging support.
Desired Skills & Experience
* MS/PhD in a related field.
* Experience working in autonomous vehicle domain.
* Six Sigma certification.
What You Will Be Doing
Technology
* Specifications - lead the activity to ensure all subsystems in the vehicle are suitably specified and no interfaces are left without cover.
* Safety - coach and mentor on system design to ISO26262 for electric vehicle systems paving the way for autonomous vehicle systems.
* Supplier Relationships - bring existing supplier relationships into the role to ensure the best technologies are offered to meet the program goals.
* Integration - support activities to integrate all subsystems ensuring any areas of ambiguity are addressed.
* Validation - support activities to to validate all subsystems and lead resolution in area of expertise.
Delivery
* Program Timelines - create and ensure all tasks required are included in the timeline, and work to ensure there is a plan for all of the components and subsystems.
* Project Budgets - ensure the program budgets for cost (D&D, tooling, and piece price), weight and power consumption are tracked, appropriately traded and ultimately met.
* Manufacturing - ensure that the engineered vehicle can be manufactured in an effiecient way.
* Quality - lead activities to ensure all systems have followed the appropriate quality approach to engineering (APQP, boundary diagrams, interface matrices, dFMEAs, pDMEAs, etc.).
* Service Provision - lead activities to ensure that all services of the vehicle and battery can take place within targets, and that the charging infrastructure is created in a way that is fully fit for purpose.
